performance is ever-present in the process of realising potential that shows itself when the conditions allow.
This may seem lackadaisical, lacklustre, lame, noncommittal, etc.
but commitment and consistency is required nonetheless, to maintain attention, a ready-willing-and-able preparedness to strike at a moment's notice.
there are little glimmers and spot fires appearing here and there, signs of life yet.

INTERSECTION6
INTERSECTION6 at a nearby intersection on Tuesday, May 19, 2020
As we have been discouraged from publicly congregating and in order to continue INTERSECTION for 2020, it was suggested that on May 19 each participant undertake a personal performance at a nearby intersection.
It is hoped that this revised concept encourages more and varied participants than the usual scenario.
Performances maybe brief or extended and exist in any imaginable manner.
INTERSECTION5
This episode of INTERSECTION will be the first to occur outside of the annual May 19 event in Melbourne city.
This event, being at the invitation of the festival "One Night in Footscray", takes place at the corner of Leeds and Hopkins Sts., Footscray from 6 pm until 9 pm.
Please come and discover what is there that exists in, what passes through this precise location of terrain.

GAIP at MIM 2017
A return visit for GAIP at Museum of Innocence Mildura from November 2 until November 17, 2017. MIM, ADFA building, 31-33 Deakin Ave. Mildura.
Since the MIM sign still displayed "november / ren walters", I proposed that I return in November 2017.
A much less social time was had with more focus on visual work and outback trips taking in new vistas and previously visited sites. Since the new studio in Rupanyup is only 3 hours away there is a growing sense of connection with the general region and a coming-to-know. I am noticing more localised difference and nuance in the landscapes as I move through by car or on foot.
An (at least) annual visit is in order, especially if the MIM sign declares my presence in november!
GAIP at Rupanyup 2017
Rupanyup is the site of an ongoing GAIP project to establish a physical space that will host creative gatherings in a rural setting from now into the future.
The place has already seen a number of unlikely meetings and acts of serious generosity. It is hoped that the unexpected is encountered and the place be understood as both a haven for the needy and an intersection of similarities and differences in good creative spirit.

Ren Walters A-I-R GAIP at MIM
Inaugural artist-in-residence at the new Museum of Innocence Mildura from November 2 until November 30, 2016.
MIM, ADFA building, 31-33 Deakin Ave. Mildura.
I am undertaking this residency as an initiator of and participant in General Assembly of Interested Parties.
Briefly, my overarching purpose is to be accessible and available to those interested in interacting, observing, listening and conversing.
I am offering a soundplay/ new listening workshop for people interested in sound-making as an exploratory, creative and consciousness expanding adventure.
No musical experience is necessary. I am also offering individual musical encounters.
Within the gallery I intend to be working visually and aurally, but whatever may transpire in the space will be understood as constituting performance. I will also be venturing outside into the town and countryside in this capacity.
In addition MIM and GAIP will be hosting other visiting artists during the residency joining me in activities and functioning independently.
There will be a ‘noticeboard’ in the window informing the viewer of the days' ‘schedule’ and upcoming planned activities but there will also be plenty of unscripted happenings within the space and at other external locations.
Whilst engaging in traditional arts practices is often a starting point, a broader social, performative, collaborative, conversational process is sought.

May 14/15, 2016 at Testing Grounds, 1 - 23 City Road, Southbank, Saturday 6:00 pm. until Sunday 6:00 pm. GAIP in conjunction with Testing Grounds presents gather: a 24 hour performance event.
gather will function, in part, as a closing ceremony, marking the end of a chapter for Testing Grounds (which will undergo a major upgrade over winter).
There will be no programmed performances, instead, spontaneous, adhoc, on-the-spot collaborations, and an improvisational approach to performance of any material will be the predominant mode of relation, forming a constantly negotiated improvisational ecology.

CURRENT 2013

- a celebration of music made in the moment of performance -
aimed at fostering community across the spectrum of age and experience.
CURRENT 2012
September 15 and 16, 2012 at CONDUIT Art Space.
Presented by General Assembly of Interested Parties in association with Conduit Arts.
- a celebration of music made in the moment of performance -
aimed at fostering community across the spectrum of age and experience.
The event will see each of the 24 participants perform in a trio format, twice over the two days.
The idea is for each grouping to be 'untried' prior to this event, and that there be a mix of age and experience. This will emphasise the experimental, in having to negotiate a new situation.
We hope that a spirit of generosity and mentorship will coax the less experienced participants to
fearlessly leap forth, inspiring the more experienced to do the same !
The program will be arrived at through an initial invitation and consequent setting of trios, after which line-up adjustments can be negotiated.
Performances will begin at 2 pm. for a half hour duration, and continue on the hour with the last session at 9 pm. on both days. We are aiming for two performance locations enabling the set up process to be leisurely. If time permits, there will be an opportunity for a larger group impromptu finale on each day.
